What is Miniature Art and How is it Made

This art, which is highly popular especially in Europe, was also widespread in our country in the past.

The hostility towards painting encountered in the Arabian Peninsula due to religious reasons and the consequent lack of development in the art of painting were inevitable. However, miniature art, a completely different field of painting, which spread to the Arabian Peninsula through the Persian peoples of the time, and from there to Turkish lands, has become one of the most popular visual arts today.

Miniature art is made with two-dimensional depictions.

With the first emergence of miniature art, it became possible for people to translate and reflect situations they could not express with words, such as war or other different circumstances, into visuals. Thus, this art, beyond being just an art, had to develop as a form of archival activity of its time. Thanks to its use for archival purposes, miniature works are preserved in good conditions in state archives, possessing invaluable examples that have reached our day. Miniature art is not only found in Arab lands but also has examples in Europe. Many events were recorded and preserved in Europe using this art. Today, the largest miniature art archive is located in the Vatican library. These depictions are generally dominated by red colors. These works, where red tones are generally dominant, can often be made on paper, as well as frequently seen on the walls of buildings. It is possible to frequently encounter miniature artworks on the walls of important structures, and in Europe, on the walls of churches.
