Must-See Places During Your Warsaw Holiday
Warsaw, located on the Vistula River, is the capital of Poland. With a population of nearly 2 million, Warsaw is also known as the Phoenix City. The city, which was almost entirely destroyed during World War II, is called the Phoenix City because it is thought to have been reborn from its ashes.
When you visit Warsaw, you must see the statue of the mermaid Syrena, who is the subject of one of the city's famous legends, standing with her sword and shield. You can visit Stare Miasto to see buildings that still bear bullet marks, and then proceed to Castle Square, or Plac Zamkowy. It's a very lively square, so much so that its cafes, shops, and musicians serve tourists almost all day long.
Another must-see place is the Warsaw Uprising Monument, a symbol of the country's resistance to the Nazis. In this city full of history, you can visit St. Anne's Church, Holy Cross Church, the Chopin Monument, the Chopin Museum, Lazienki Park, the Palace of Culture and Science, Belvedere Palace, and the Grand Theatre, and you can witness the traces of the war in the country more closely by visiting the Jewish Quarter.
The National Museum and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Warsaw exhibit truly magnificent works for those interested. Don't forget Zacheta National Gallery of Art.
