Ancient City of Petra

A 2,000-year-old secret in the Jordanian Deserts, the Ancient City of Petra is located between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. It was the capital of the Nabataeans from 400 BC to 106 AD. It is also said to be the land of Thamud, mentioned in the Holy Quran as having been destroyed. The Ancient City of Petra, one of the most important places to visit in the Middle East, is also known as the region where Prophet Salih lived. After earthquakes and various hardships in 400 AD, the city began to be forgotten. According to recent research, it is said that there is a secret and buried section under Petra. It has also been revealed that this section contains royal tombs. Many structures such as temples, theaters, and houses are made of limestone. The Roman-era amphitheater and Al-Khazneh are the most famous. It was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1985. In 2007, it was accepted as one of the 7 Wonders of the World. It was declared a sister city with Machu Picchu, another ancient city located in Peru.
