For Spaniards, festivals are almost life itself. Valencia is also a city quite busy with festivals. The biggest share among the festival programs that begin in March is the Las Fallas Festival. With its history dating back to the Middle Ages, it is among Valencia's most important festivals. In the festival where giant puppets are made and exhibited, a competition is also organized for the puppets. The puppet chosen as the winner is taken to a museum and exhibited. All the puppets that do not win are burned and destroyed on March 19.
