The Grand Canyon is located in the state of Arizona in the United States of America. It also holds the title of America's oldest national park. It is also known as Grand Canyon National Park. The canyon, located around the Colorado River, is 466 kilometers long. Its width varies between 400 meters and 2.4 kilometers. There are places where it reaches a depth of 1600 meters. It was first discovered in 1540 by the Spaniard Garcia Lopez de Cardenas. In 1869, the first scientific research began. Settlements belonging to Native Americans were found on the canyon walls. The Grand Canyon, also described as the world's deepest valley, is one of the most frequently visited places by tourists with its valleys, steep slopes, and rock formations in magnificent colors. The canyon was formed as a result of erosion by the Colorado River. Over more than 1 million years, the river, eroding the Colorado Plateau, deepened the gorge. The deepest and longest part is the section starting from Lake Powell and ending at Lake Mead. The canyon's slopes are a rich resource for researchers from a geological perspective. Numerous remains of prehistoric cave dwellers have been found. The Yuman Tribe, still living in the canyon, are Native Americans living on the Colorado Plateau.
