ANTALYA Marina & LEISURE CENTRE
Antalya the ancient Attaleia was founded in the 2nd century B.C. by Attalus ll of Pergamon and was conquered successively by the Romans and Seljuks. It is possible to visit all to the principal monuments either on foot or by horse drawn carriages. There are well preserved city ramparts and the monumental Hadrians Gate in beautiful decorated marble, which was built in, 130 A.D. to commemorate the Emperor's visit to the city On the Konyaaltı Boulevard at the west of the city is an archaeological museum housing a rıch collection of sarcophagi discovered in the surrounding areas as well as relics of Santa Claus.
A short distance from the city square is the identifying landmark of Antalya, the curious fluted minaret of the Yivli Minareli Mosquewhich was converted from a church to a mosque in the 13th century by the Seljuk Sultan Keykubat and today houses a small art gallery From here one can walk downhill along the narrow winding streets of the old quarters lined with pretty wooden houses leading to the picturesque Marina.
Antalya Marina is one of the best and most attractive centres for yachting tourism on the Mediterranean coast. It boasts charming fish restaurants, cafes, boutiques markets and night clubs etc plus an excellent hotels with interesting architecture. In all it is a perfect compound of the traditional and the modern ensuring an excellent service to world-wide tourism indeed in 1984 Turkey was awarded the "Golden Apple" -the "Oscar" of the tourism world-for the excellent restoration work on the Marina and leisure centre by the World Federation of Travel Writers and Journalists.
