TURKEY AN UNDERWATER PARADISE

 

Underwater Diving Regulations

   The following equipment is required for amateur diving:
Skin Diving :
                a ) Mask, snorkel and flippers
                b ) Headgear, jacket, trousers, Neoprene diving suit, either all- in - one or consisting of separate helmet, jacket, trousers, boots and gloves.
                c ) Diving belt made of lead or other metals
                d ) Time watch and depth watch.
                e ) Signal buoy tied by any type of rope to indicate the diver's position underwater, and an alpha flag ( blue - white )

Scuba Diving

   In addition to the equipment listed in A. above, the diver may use the following equipment:
                a ) Two air cylinders per diver, at least 1 litre in volume; either single or connected to one another by a manifold; made of steel or other alloys; tied to the diver by a special belt; and containing compressed air or breathable gas. They must discharge their exhaust into the water.
                b ) To enable the diver to breathe the compressed air in the cylinder safely, each diver to breathe the compressed air in the cylinder safely, each diver must have three single and double hosed regulators, the third being a spare in the event of one developing a fault.
                c ) For each cylinder there must be one pressure gauge joined to the cylinder or regulator for measuring the amount of air remaining in the cylinder.
                d )  Decompressormetre ( one ).
                e ) Plastic or metal decompressors may be freely used. However, the use of any kind of balloon designed for carrying, which is taken underwater deflated and inflated underwater is forbidden. Boats specified in Paragraph 6 may be equipped with a compressor. There are no restrictions on the type , colour or origin of the equipment used.
                2. It is forbidden to gather sea life for commercial purposes. However, when skin diving without breathing apparatus it is permitted to hunt with a pressure gun for amateur and sporting purposes.
                3. It is forbidden to dive with breathing equipment  at night.
              


 

 



 

  4. In general underwater diving is permitted only from Turkish boats However, those who arrive with their own craft, or others who wish to dive from their own boats, may dive from foreign registered craft with a certificate form the Ministry of Culture and Tourism or those belonging to clubs.
                5. For their own safety, divers are advised to comply with the following recommendations.
                a ) Obtain a certificate from an international organization or authorised national organisation which is a member of the International Underwater Sports Federations.
                b ) Groups of people wishing to dive should be accompanied by a Turkish diving guide.
                6. Divers should obtain permission from the ll Kültür ve Turizm Müdürlüğü or its authorised representative to dive in any location.
                7. There is no restriction on underwater photography.
                8. It is forbidden to remove anything, organic or inorganic, from the seabed, under any circumstances.
                9. Permission must be obtained from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, before opening diving clubs, associations or teaching centres at hotels, holiday villages or other location.
