It has a wooden staircase of  steps. Those prepared to make the arduous climb are reward with a marvellous panorama of the city and its nearer suburbs.

YILDIZ PARK
The channel of water separating two continents that we call the Bosphorus has throughout history had a covering of greenery. But as the city of Istanbul has grown, these age-old forests have been encroached upon, diminishing in size and with drawing to the North.
Until the th century for example Beyoglu was known in western literature as the vineyards of pera now, as those who live here know it is one of the most crowded residential and business areas of the city. Some areas of the city still maintain their old patoral names as for example the commercial center near the port called Fındıklı.
In Turkish the name means "place with hazel nuts"
There are still places where the Bosphorus retains its ancient greenery One of the closest, to the city is Yıldız Park.
Two short roads one along the shore and from above join it to the city, and major hotels like the Hilton and the Carlton are only a ten minute taxi ride away.

Yıldız Palace

As the Byzantine capital, it is well known that the city subject to repaed invasions was restricted largely to the are within the walls. It fell to the Ottomans, primarily in the last three hundred years, to take proper advantage of the natural beauties of the Bosphorus.

the SELİMİYE MOSQUE at EDİRNE
Selim II for whom this, masterpiece was built succeeded his father Süleyman the magnificent in . He was destined to reign for only eight years, during which time he acquired a reputation for drunkenness and debauchery which won him the titlt of selim the Sot.
On the other hand, it was during his reign that cyprus was conquered ( 1570 ) and Tunusia ( 1574 ) and at the same time preparations were begun for a revenge for the defeat of Lepanto.

Selim II is also known to have been no mean poet, and produced a Divan ( collection ) of very fine poetry.
The greatest testimony to his aesthetic judgment, however, must remain the magnificent mosque at Edirne which bears his name. Sinan, the head architect, was seventy-nine
years old when he received an order from Selim II to build a mosque that should have no peer in the world and whose dome should surpass that of St Sophia.

THE BLUE MOSQUE

Blue Mosque

The Sultan Ahmet Mosque is one of the most impressive monuments in the world; it is cachet which makes our city "Turkish".
When one looks from the Galata Bridge and the Golden Horn, the magnificent Suleymaniye Mosque of the architect Sinan seems to dominate on the skyline. However when entering Istanbul Harbour from the sea one is, struck by the majesty of the Blue Mosque with its tall slender minarets and half and full domes of one another causing the building to rise in gracious curves.
Observed next to st. Sophia which is massive and thick Blue Mosque caresses the eye like a beautiful flower or a princely gem cut by a master craftsman. On entering the Mosque by lifting the curtain at the door everyone whatever his national or, religious origin, is struck with the blue mist seeming to fall from the coloured windows and tiles the coolness reaching the soul.
The mosque of Sultan Ahmet and its dependent building were built in the year 1609 - 1619.
The Mosque is surrounded by twenty - six granire pillars with marble stalactile heads sporting thirty domes. In the middle of this marble paved courtyard sits a hexagon shaped columned Şadırvan
( washing fountain ) ; its effect is striking.
The courtyard has three entrances the main door in the west possesses, a noble style. The Mosque itself has three doors. The one opening and is still in use today.
The interior of the Mosque is a huge rectangle with a length of 51.65 m. and a width of
53.40 m.
