The Black Sea
Safranbolu:
In the interior region, to the south-east of Zonguldak, some of the most beautiful examples of old Turkish architecture may be seen in the timber houses of Safranbulu. Today their matchless beauty has been widely restored and reanimated, and should absolutely be visited.
Bartın:
17 km south-east of Amasra is a pretty village with timbered houses. The remains of a Roman and dating from the times of the Emperor Claudius can be seen.
Amasra:
81 km east of Zonguldak, stands on a peninsular split by two inlets, and is alittle fishing port, one of the highpoints of the natural beauty of the Black Sea. By the village, on a rocky promontory, rise the ramparts of the Byzantine citadel. There is also a Byzantine church, now called the Fatih Camii, and a necropolis from the Roman period.
East of Amasra is the typical fishing village of Çakraz with its excellent beach. The road from Çakraz eastwards is particularly sceic passing through the towns of Kurucaşile where Black Sea fishing boats are made and Cide which has good hotels and a pleasant beach.
İnebolu:
A typical Black Sea town set in lush greenery. 24 km east of inebolu is the town of Abana, a pleasant holiday centre.
Kastamonu:
is another regional centre situated amidst beautiful forests. Here one may see a 12 th century Byzantine church at the foot of a hill.

The spectacularly carved wooden, door of the İbni Neccar Camii is protected in the town museum, and one should also see the 13th century Atabey Camii, Near the town is Ev Kaya, a rock-tomb dating from the 16th century B.C. ın the village of Kasaba the Mahmut Bey Camii is one of the loveliest to be seen anywhere in Turkey.
On the Kastamonu-Çankırı road in the llgaz Mountains is a state park and ski-resort.

The Eastern Black Sea Coasts
Sinop:
462 km north-east of Ankara is one of the most beautiful natural harbours of the Black Sea. It was the birthplace of the Cynic philosopher Diogenes. From this period date the town citadel and the foundation's of a temple dedicated to Serapis in the grounds of the important archeological museum. The Charming fisher man's wharf with brightly coloured boats, fish restaurants and bars is a delightful place for the visitor to relax, wine and dine. The 13th century Alaeddin Camii and the Alaiye Medrese should ne seen.
Around here are charming little fishing-spots with lovely little restaurants. Also closebly is the quaint village of Gerze with its beautiful beach, fish restaurants and park.
Bafra:
120 km east of Sinop, is a town famous for its tobacco , caviar, and thermal springs Here one may see a 13th century hamam and a mosque mousoleum-medrese complex from the 15th century.
Samsun:
417km north-east of Ankara,342 km east of Sinop is a modern industrial town and at the same time o major port of the Black Sea area. The region's products are exported from here. Every year in July a large agricultural Fair is held here. In the town park one may seen an extraordinarily effective equestrian statue of Atatürk, and it will be remembered that on the 19th May 1919 Ataturk set out here to organise the town's mosques one may visit the 14th century Büyük Camii. Finds from Dündar Tepe and the ancient Aöisos are displayed in the archaeological museum.
Ünye:
89 km east o Samsun a charming little port where the purple of the rocks contrasts with the blue of the sky and the green of the hazel-nut plantations. Here the 18th century townhall building is a truly extraordinary sight. 3km beyond ünye is the magnificent beach of Çamlık.
Ordu:
75km east of Ünye the ancient Cotyora, stands at the foot of a verdant hill. It was from here that the survivors of Xenophon's ten Thousand embarked. Specially remarkable are an 18th century church and the pretty beach of Güzelyalı 2 km from the town.
Giresun :
52 km east of Ordu was founded by the ruins of a Byzantine fortress. From here the Roman general Lucullus carried the first cherrytrees to Europe. In the town there is an 18 th century church. Outside the town is Giresun Adası which is said to have once belonged to the Amazons and where the remains of a temple can be seen.
Between Giresun and Trabzon surrounded by wooded mountains are the villages of Keşan, Tirebolu Vakfıkebir, and Akçaabat which are important for reasons of history, climate, and beauty
