EXCURSIANS AND CRUISES

It is pleasant to visit the secluted coves, beaches and historical sites by boat, though the following places are all equally easily accessible by car.
For a moderate price you can visit the beaches of Bardakçı, the closest to Bodrum; Gümbet, with its golden sandy beach, motel and camping sites; Bağlar Körfezi; Turgutreis ( Karatoprak ), at the end of the peninsula, surrounded by orchards; Gümüşlük, a picturesque fishing village next to the ancient port of Myndos; and finally, Yalıkavak.
Just a half hour boat trip takes you to the Island of Karaada, with its famous hot springs. You can also take a trip around the Gökova Körfezi ( Ceramic Gulf ), between the peninsulas of Bodrum and Marmaris. The Shores of the Gulf are a pure marvel, a succession of sheltered bays with sandy beaches, wooded shores and deserted islets; the waters are clear and warm and full of fish -a
truly memorable trip.

MARMARİS

Situated at the confluence of the Mediterranean Aegean Seas, this pleasant little port with its red-roofed houses settled snugly along the shores of a beautiful bay, is one of the highlights of any Turkish tour. The neighbouring shores abound in secluded coves andinlets with pine-covered mountains sloping steeply to the shore calling to mind the beauty of the Norwegian fjords, though
the hot Mediterranean sun and clear waters soon belis this impression.

PLACES OF INTEREST IN MARMARIS

Marmaris the ancient Hhyscus of the Kingdom of Caria, was once a prosperous port on the commercial route between Anatolia, Rhoder and Egypt. Despite its faded power and trade, a few ancient monuments remain, the fortress, built by Sultan Süleyman the magnificent in 1522 during his campaign for the conquest of Rhodes, and of the same era, an old bridge, the covered bazaar, Taşhan, and a caravanserai.

FETHİYE

Fethiye, the ancient cityof Telmessos, lies on the side of a hill next to a deep blue bay strewn with island.

PLACES OF INTEREST IN FETHIYE

A fortress constructed by the Horsemen of Rhodes stands at the top of the hill. Set in the steep cliff face above the town are several Lycian rock tombs, notably the Tomb of Amyntas ( 4th century B.C ), with its clossal facade. Many Lycian sarcophagi have been discovered in the town an the surrounding areas.

EXCURSIONS AND CRUISES

There are numerous boat trips to the many island and beaches in the Bay of Fethiye, and especially in the Bay of Belceğiz, where a lagoon called Ölü Deniz, is one or the main attractions of this coast. The lagoon is almost completely cut off from the sea except for a narrow channel; the water is crystal clear, the swimming is great, and the fish are abundant.
Next to the little, town of Kınık, 65 km. from fethiye, lies Xanthos, one of the most beautiful sites in Asia Minor, set on  a mountain side next to a small river. There are two interesting
funeral monuments, the Pillar of the Harpies and another pillar supporting a Lycian sarcophagus
( 6th century B.C. ), standing next to a Roman theatre.

CLIMATE

The climate of this southern region of the Aegean is typically Mediterranean with warm, dry summers which are never torrid, and very mild winters. The temperature of the sea water is never
less than 15C ( it is possible to bathe even in November ) and is as high as 23C during the months.
