THE ANATOLIAN FORTRESS (ANADOLU HİSARI)

Anadolu Hisari (The Anatolian Fortress) was built on the Asian coast of the Bosphorus in 1390-1391 by Sultan Beyazid I with the purpose of controlling passage through the Bosphorus. But it was only after Rumeli Hisari was built some sixty years later that perfect control could be established.
The fortress is flanked by a creek that was the romantic setting for pleasure rides in rowboats accompanied by wine and song during the times of the Ottoman Empire. Today, it is still a picturesque and romantic site along with the old seafront houses that surround it.
